It publishes original research, research reviews, letters and news. It maintains a single-blind peer reviewing system, and on request, an open reviewing with an author's suggestion of external experts.

It is registered with the Registrar of the Newspapers for India, Government of India, under registration number RNI MIZBIL/2001/4252. For eight year till 2008, its publication was entirely on general science education. The Mizo Academy of Sciences (MAS) is a not-for-profit scientific organisation based in Aizawl, Mizoram, India. It was established in 1995 as the Mizo Post Graduate Science Society (MIPOGRASS) in Shillong, Meghalaya, by science students at the North Eastern Hill University. It was originally created ‘to promote and make further development of science for the Mizo community’, specifically for the welfare of postgraduate students.  As higher education in science advanced among the Mizo people, the society changed into MAS in 2013. Now, membership has included university Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, professors, college principals, members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, engineers, medical doctors, pharmacists, veterinary doctors, architects, civil service officers, university teachers, college teachers, school teachers, and research scholars from different parts of the world.

The academy is registered under the Mizoram Societies Registration Act, 2005 with a registration number S.R. 42/96/MZ-RFS of 1996. As part of its regular activity, it organises annual conferences on trailblazing scientific themes and awareness campaigns, and publishes a peer-reviewed journal Science Vision.

The academy is the leading supporter of the Mizoram Science Congress, the largest scientific conference in Mizoram. The congress had been held in 2016 at Mizoram University campus in Tanhril, and in 2018 at Pachhunga University College in Aizawl.
